Happy Sunday everyone!
Today I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite book covers so far this year. Just to be clear, these are books I have acquired this year, so they were not necessarily published in 2018 (although most of them were).
Most are still on my TBR list but that doesn’t stop me admiring them. And petting them. Did I say that out loud? I know I am not the only one who pets books. Right?
Anyway, onto the books…!
Title: As Kingfisher’s Catch Fire
Author(s): Alex Preston and Neil Gower
Publisher: Little, Brown
Imprint: Corsair
First up is As Kingfishers Catch Fire by Alex Preston and Neil Gower. This book is visually stunning inside and out. I’m planning on doing a review in the future and I’ll feature some of the illustrations. The colours on the cover are so vivid and I apologise that the photos do not do the book justice. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, we need more orange books in the world.
Title: The Old Man and The Sand Eel
Author(s): Will Millard
Publisher: Penguin Random House
Imprint: Viking
Next is a memoir about fishing by Will Millard called The Old Man and The Sand Eel. It surprises me even now, months after finishing it, how much I enjoyed a memoir about fishing. It was the first memoir I’d ever read and I have no interest in fishing but this book is wonderful. I have to be honest and say I wanted it for the cover – it’s so visually attractive – I particularly like the fishing line detail down the spine.
I got it for the cover, I stayed for the content.
Title: A Black Fox Running
Author(s): Brian Carter
Publisher: Bloomsbury
This new edition of A Black Fox Running was released earlier this year and caused a bit of a resurgence. I wanted to read it anyway but this cover sealed the deal. I’ve always loved foxes and it makes me happy to have this lovely book in my collection. I particularly enjoy the metallic orange branches interspersed with stars.
Title: The Cheerleaders
Author(s): Kara Thomas
Publisher: Penguin Random House
Imprint: Delacorte Press
And last but by no means least, Kara Thomas’ The Cheerleaders. I missed out on an ARC of this book and honestly, I am now glad otherwise I wouldn’t own this wonderful hardcover version. There is something so infinitely appealing about this cover. I think, for me, it is the play between light and dark. Light in that it’s a bright cover, white with the bold blue of the cheerleading skirt, but dark with the spatterings of blood suggesting something far more sinister lies beneath the cover.
Just a reminder…
That’s it for my Sunday blog – I deliberately wanted to keep it simple because IMHO that’s what Sundays are all about.
If you haven’t already done so, please head on over to my Giveaway blog post. It’s open until Friday 17th August. Good luck!
If you want to buy any of these books please consider supporting my blog by using my Book Depository affiliate link. Thank you.
I agree that these are lovely covers! I like petting books too… lol. Have a relaxing Sunday!
