It’s October (nearly)…
I had a far quieter book month with a grand total of 13 books acquired. Part my own purchases, part ARCs, and one miscellaneous. I’ve split it into reading level this month, but I’ll clearly state what I bought myself and what I was sent by publishers.
Enjoy. (And Happy Sunday!)
New Readers/Junior (Age 4-7)
I was sent this beautiful book, Goodnight, Anne, by Tundra (an imprint of Penguin Random House Canada Young Readers) and did a full review here.
Middle-Grade
This has been a great middle-grade month! I absolutely love middle-grade, these books just make me so happy. I bought all of these books myself with the exception of Cogheart which I’ll talk more about below.
This week I got my hands on a final copy of P. G. Bell’s The Train to Impossible Places after attending the book launch. It was a fab night and I’ve got a blog post planned for publication day (4th October 2018). Meanwhile, please hop over to my full review to see what I thought of the ARC.
I bought and reviewed Nora Raleigh Baskin’s Nine, Ten: A September 11 Story after seeing it featured on Little Reader Book Reviews. I found the book problematic. See my full review here.
I also purchased Eloise Williams’ Seaglass, Anna James’ Pages & Co. (review coming soon) and Gareth P. Jones’ Constable and Toop.
I was lucky enough to receive Peter Bunzl’s Cogheart from the wonderful people at Big Green Bookshop as part of their #BuyAStrangerABook day on Twitter. Please go check out their website and Twitter feed, and do your bit to support indie bookshops.
Adult Fiction
Last but not least, I have my adult fiction haul – all ARCs.
I received a bundle of books from Flame Tree Press and I am currently working my way through D. W. Gillespie’s The Toy Thief. I’m looking forward to The House by the Cemetery by John Everson but I have to say that Brian Trent’s Ten Thousand Thunders doesn’t look like my cup of tea. I might give it a go anyway, as I really need to push the boundaries on what I read.
Next up, I was so excited to have a bright orange parcel drop through my front door in the form of Harriet Tyce’s Blood Orange. I’ve finished it and I’ve written my review but you’re going to have to wait a bit longer before you find out what I thought of it (spoiler: I LOVED IT).
Also added to my TBR list are Kevin Brooks’ Dogchild and Gary Kemble’s Strange Ink.
Phew. I think that’s it.
