Stay at Home tag [Bookish Edition]

I hope you’re all keeping well! I saw this tag over on Mani’s Book Corner and decided it looked fun. As well as being a bit of fun, I just wanted to take the opportunity to appeal to everyone to keep staying home where possible. Look after yourselves and others – this virus is not done yet.

This tag is all about reading at home. Enjoy!

Take care.

1. Laying in bed — a book you read in one day

That’s a super easy one for me at the moment – The Secrets of Strangers by Charity Norman. I took a day off work and sat in the garden to devour it. This book is seriously good.

2. Snacking – a book that is a ‘guilty pleasure’ read

I don’t believe in guilty pleasure reads – read what you love because you love it, and don’t justify yourself to anyone else! I am guilty of reading loads of medical memoirs, such as Adam Kay’s This is Going to Hurt. I can’t get enough of them!

3. Netflix — a series that you want to start

I still have not read the Cogheart books, despite owning most of them! Hopefully Peter Bunzl can forgive me, I absolutely will get to them.

4. Deep clean — a book that has been on your TBR for ages

I’ve had Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk on my list for what feels like forever, even though the book itself isn’t that old. I keep waiting for the right time.

5. Animal Crossing — a book you recently bought because of the hype

Can I just say, first of all, that I love Animal Crossing and if you want to be my friend in the game just comment at the bottom of the blog post!

I was so late to the party with Heartstopper. I do love a graphic novel and when I eventually got around to Heartstopper I absolutely loved it. I was so shocked by the range of topics it covered, the quality of the writing and the illustrations. I have the others on my TBR.

6. Productivity — a book you learned from or had an impact on you

I’ve read my fair share of self-help books and typically only take away a snippet or two of advice. However, I am currently re-reading The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris and it is so useful and enlightening. I absolutely love it.

7. Facetime — a book you were gifted

I was gifted Elizabeth Acevedo’s With The Fire on High last year just before I went on holiday. I adore this book. It is just wonderful and brings back happy memories of poolside reading. Remember when we could leave home? Those were the days…

8. Self-care — what is one thing you have done recently to look after yourself

Recently, I’ve been looking into improving my handwriting and learning cursive (which I was not taught in school). My handwriting is not bad but it could be better, and I love the act of writing. To help me on my way, I’ve just ordered The Lost Art of Handwriting by Brenna Jordan.

BONUS — An upcoming release to which you are looking forward

I actually think the publication date for this has been pushed back, but I am very much looking forward to When I Was Ten by Fiona Cummins.
